Cost for Lions Club Pool work comes in under budget

The Parish of St. Joseph in Homewood brought a sense of summer into a gloomy January night with its annual Winter Picnic fundraiser on Saturday, Jan. 28.The school gym and classrooms were filled with people dressed in tropical print shirts, shorts and T-shirts as they got into the spirit of the event. Even Pope Francis ― via a life-sized cardboard cutout of the pontiff ― greeted guests from the shade of a decorative palm tree. The event included all the usual summer picnic food and activities, with games for kids, a cake walk, bingo . . .

Summer events

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
