South Suburban Family Shelter seeks holiday family donations

South Suburban Family Shelter, Inc. is looking for individuals, families or businesses interested in participating in its annual Adopt-A-Family Holiday Program.

Generous donors will purchase and wrap gifts for families who are in crisis because of domestic violence. Food is also needed, including turkeys, chickens and non-perishable items for holiday meals.

Without the support of donors, families will likely have nothing to help them celebrate the holidays, said Vicki Meilach, community outreach coordinator.

For information about how you can help the Adopt-A-Family program, email [email protected] or call 708-283-1421, ext. 23 or 708-794-2140, ext. 303.

South Suburban Family Shelter, a not-for-profit agency providing comprehensive services for families experiencing domestic violence, offers a 24-hour hotline; emergency shelter; counseling for adult victims and their children; abuser intervention; court and medical advocacy; a prevention program; and an outreach program.

All victim services are provided free of charge and are available in English and Spanish.
