South Suburban Family Shelter seeks donations for holiday Adopt-A-Family program

South Suburban Family Shelter Inc. (SSFS) is looking for individuals, families or businesses interested in participating in its annual Adopt-A-Family Holiday Program.   Adopt-A-Family is designed to help victims of domestic violence and their children during the holiday season.  The victims and their children who participate in Adopt-A-Family are experiencing financial hardship as a result of their family circumstances. They would likely have nothing for the holidays without the help of generous donors, according to SSFS officials.  Donors purchase and wrap gifts for their adopted family. Monetary contributions . . .

Fall events

Saturday, Sept. 24

  • Homewood Fall Fest and Chili Cook-off, noon to 9 p.m. Chili tasting is open to the public for a donation from 3 to 5 p.m. Three live music performances, plus horse-drawn wagon rides, a pumpkin patch, crafts and other activities.

Saturday, Oct. 15

  • Dia de los Muertos in downtown Homewood. Details to follow.
