Oct. 8 public art fundraiser features auction of unique works of art: chairs

Those calendars and planners on sale this time of year were put into early use at Monday’s Flossmoor District 161 board of education meeting.

Board members synchronized their schedules for the next three months with representatives of BWP and Associates, the firm hired by the board to assist in finding both an interim and a full-time superintendent.

The dual searches were made necessary by the recent separation agreement between the board and Craig Doster, District 161’s superintendent for the past six years.

Summer events

Saturday, July 2

  • Roots + Fire Water grand opening, 11 a.m. at 1941 Ridge Road in Homewood.

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
