Vegging Out, a new local initiative for plant-based eating, has announced collaborations with two Homewood restaurants, each to be launched with a special plant-based meal. The first event will be a three-course vegan dinner on Friday, Dec. 5, at The Cottage on Dixie. The second will be Vegan Night on Nov. 14 at Cilantro.In addition to restaurant events, the organization, based in Homewood, offers potlucks and educational resources about plant-based eating. The organization is also collaborating with the Homewood Public Library to offer books, cookbooks, videos and websites for plant-based eating . . .

Summer events

Saturday, July 2

  • Roots + Fire Water grand opening, 11 a.m. at 1941 Ridge Road in Homewood.

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
