H-F grad to be featured on national TV show Sunday

A local teen who started You Matter 2, a nonprofit organization that helps fight hunger, will be featured on national television on Sunday, Aug. 28.

A local teen who started You Matter 2, a nonprofit organization that helps fight hunger, will be featured on national television on Sunday, Aug. 28.

Destiny Watson, a 2016 Homewood-Flossmoor High School graduate, is one of 10 Chicago area students selected for the special show at 6 p.m. on ABC that will celebrate youth empowerment. She currently attends the University of Dayton.

She will be featured in a three-minute short film about what teens doing to change the communities they live in by taking on some of society’s most pressing issues, including hunger, homelessness and bullying.

The short film is part of Allstate Insurance Company’s #theysay campaign, a platform that empowers young people to dispel the negative stereotypes about them by sharing their stories. 

The second annual commercial-free WE Day broadcast will feature celebrities inspiring thousands of young people who recently came together to celebrate their efforts to improve the lives of others. Featured performers will include Charlize Theron, Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, Seth Rogen, Big Sean, Zooey Deschanel, Tyrese Gibson and others.
