A Ford Heights man faces a number of traffic charges after striking a motorcyclist and leaving the scene Friday evening, according to Homewood police.
Jeremiah Johnson, 18, allegedly was trying to evade Chicago Heights police officers. Shortly after 6:30 p.m. the 2007 silver Ford Crown Victoria he was driving struck a motorcycle in the 1900 block of 183rd Street.
Johnson and a passenger fled the scene on foot but were apprehended a short time later. Both were placed in the custody of Chicago Heights police.
The motorcyclist was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said.
Johnson was charged with felony leaving the scene of a personal injury accident as well as reckless driving, driving with a suspended license, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to give aid or information, no valid insurance and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
Chicago Heights police have not yet responded to requests for more information.
