School starts at H-F

A new school year begins at Homewood-Flossmoor High School with a familiar greeter. Andrew Lindstrom, aka "Mr. Red and White," stood outside the south building starting at 6:45 a.m. Wednesday to welcome teachers and students to the first day of the fall semester. "Good morning. Welcome!" he said to each group of students walking past. "Are you ready?" Students responded variously with "Yes!" or "Not really" but most of them returned Lindstrom's smile. Saturday, July 2

  • Roots + Fire Water grand opening, 11 a.m. at 1941 Ridge Road in Homewood.

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
