Third Pedal for Prostate raises funds for Cancer Support Center

South Suburban Family Shelter (SSFS) will hold its annual candlelight vigil at 6 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 3, to kick off a month of activities in October as Domestic Violence Awareness month.

The event will be held at the Irwin Community Center band shell at 18120 Highland in Homewood. There will be victim testimonies, awareness exhibits will be on display, music and a representative from the Cook County state’s attorney’s office Domestic Violence Division as well. “This event helps us bring awareness to the community of the devastating effects of domestic violence . . .

Saturday, July 2

  • Roots + Fire Water grand opening, 11 a.m. at 1941 Ridge Road in Homewood.

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
