Computer security tips offered at Aug. 4 workshop at H-F High School

Homewood-Flossmoor High School Information Services office will provide information on how to navigate computer security and protect personal and professional identities at a Thursday, Aug. 4, computer security workshop.

The program, open to the public, will begin at 6 p.m. in the high school’s technology lab in South Building. Participants should bring their mobile phones or laptops with them.

Steve Richardson, assistant director of Information Services at H-F, will lead the workshop. This course will help you:

•Understand the security risks involved in daily computer use, such as website logins and email messages.

•Understand and/or utilize two-factor authentication for one or more accounts.

•Understand and recognize the difference between phishing, malware and spyware.

•Understand how to set up basic security on a home network.

•Understand basic safeguards for personal identity theft.
