Homewood backs property tax reduction for new Krispy Kreme site

Homewood's Giant Block Party on Saturday, Aug. 20, got off to a rough start caused by a morning of periodic deluges, but organizers and festival goers did not let that stop them from rallying in the afternoon and having a good time into the evening.

Here are scenes from afternoon and evening events, including the 9-and-under ice cream eating contest, music by the Eric Lambert Band and Final Say, dancing, face painting and bird house making.

Fall events

Saturday, Sept. 24

  • Homewood Fall Fest and Chili Cook-off, noon to 9 p.m. Chili tasting is open to the public for a donation from 3 to 5 p.m. Three live music performances, plus horse-drawn wagon rides, a pumpkin patch, crafts and other activities.

Saturday, Oct. 15

  • Dia de los Muertos in downtown Homewood. Details to follow.
