Second graders discover history at Homewood’s 125-year-old house

Jordan Culpepper is getting ready for whatever task comes his way as a member of the NBC-Universal crew at the Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

The 2014 graduate of Homewood-Flossmoor High School is excited about the opportunity to be part of the international sporting event Aug. 5 through 21 in Brazil working as an NBC Logistics and Operations intern.

Summer events

Saturday, July 2

  • Roots + Fire Water grand opening, 11 a.m. at 1941 Ridge Road in Homewood.

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
