What’s Happening: May 21

Homewood-Flossmoor High School will hold a meeting to hear from community members about the board’s decision to buy out the contract of Ryan Pitcock, H-F principal.

Jodi Bryant, director of public relations and human resources at H-F, said the meeting will be held sometime within the next two weeks. The meeting is intended to allow residents “to voice concerns and ask questions” of board members.

She said board members are trying to coordinate calendars so that a date can be established.

The school board has traditionally not conducted business in July. The next regular school board meeting will be Aug. 16.

The board held a special meeting on Tuesday, June 21, and took action to buy out Pitcock’s contract, which extended through June 30, 2017.  The board will pay him salary and benefits through then.

Richard Lites, president of the school board, would not confirm the roll call vote on the board’s decision.

Board member David Mayer submitted his letter of resignation from the board on Wednesday, June 22, but declined to say if his decision was taken because of the board’s action on relieving Pitcock of his position.
