Friday afternoon and evening the Chronicle website was inaccessible and was displaying a message that some readers found confusing. We had a problem during a routine software update, and the message was a default alert from the program.
We’re working now to restore several stories that were not included in the most recent backup.
The site is running again (obviously), and we apologize to everyone in the community for the disruption.
