Homewood District 153 presented the Jerry Morin Educational Excellence Award to Stephanie Hess, a school psychologist at Willow School.

The award is presented to a teacher or staff member who has shown outstanding commitment to student achievement.

Hess, who has been at the school the past four years, was nominated by Mary Ann Savage, Willow School principal, who said Hess “works to support our kids and our families.”

The assessment data she gathers helps develop appropriate interventions for students, and Hess offers training sessions for school staff. She also offers parents information on numerous resources and programs for their children, Savage said.

District 153 Board President Shelly Marks said Hess has a difficult job telling parents their children require special services to succeed at their educational goals, but she has families leave her office believing it will be OK with the right help.
