Cheryl Scott, ABC 7 meteorologist, will be the celebrity host for the Annual Cancer Support Center Gala on April 30 at Olympia Fields Country Club in Olympia Fields.
During the gala event, The Cancer Support Center will present the Founders Award to Alan Rose, CEO and co-founder of Rose Pallet and founder of Rose Paving, for embodying the spirit of the six founders of The Cancer Support Center. As an Olympia Fields native and 11-year cancer survivor, Rose has made a commitment to supporting those living with cancer.
“It is with great pride and honor that I invest in the community that has helped shape me into the person I am today,” said Rose. “I have firsthand experience of what it means to be a cancer survivor. I hope to help as many people get through this devastating diagnosis as possible.”
The gala will begin with a cocktail reception at 6 p.m. followed by dinner and festivities. The black-tie optional event features an on-line silent auction, dinner and dancing.
Additionally, guests may honor or recognize a loved one with a special tribute displayed at the event.
The event will raise funds and awareness for the organization that provides programs and resources at no charge for those living with a cancer diagnosis as well as to their loved ones in the South Suburbs.
Scott joined ABC 7 Eyewitness News in December 2014. Previously, she worked for NBC 5 in Chicago, where she was the morning and weekend meteorologist. She also worked as a weekend meteorologist for the NBC affiliate in Knoxville, Tenn.
She was on the air when several tornadoes devastated Knoxville in April 2011. Not only did Scott serve as an important source for updating viewers on storm developments while providing critical safety information, she then volunteered her time working with the Red Cross following the disaster, according to a news letter from the Cancer Support Center.
