Ashley Deckelman placed second and Lucy Sloan placed third in the 2016 Congressional Art Competition-2nd Congressional District for high school students hosted by U.S. Rep. Robin Kelly (D-Ill.)

They were two of the 10 Homewood-Flossmoor High School students who participated. Entrees were also submitted by H-F students Aliyah Wilson, Shiloah Coley, Eliza Sykes, Taylor Ausley, Kira Van Voorhees, Brenden Smith, Jeremy Libretti-River and Kenneth Bivens.

“We had 19 young people express their truth through artwork that was remarkably imaginative and thoughtful,” Kelly said.

The winning piece was by Paul Somerville of Thornwood High.
