Rep. Kelly calls U.S. Supreme Court nominee an outstanding choice

The Homewood-Flossmoor High School Board of Education awarded tenure to three staff members at a special meeting on April 5.

Science teacher Evan Roberts, social worker Phillip Barker and College and Career Counselor Kevin Coy were given tenure after satisfactorily completing four years in their positions with District 233. The district has approximately 200 tenured staff.

Under state law, the district gave notice of dismissal to 10 part-time non-tenured staff who typically teach between one and four classes. It then hired five of those staff members back for part-time work, and three moved to full-time positions.

The board also agreed to 26 teacher contract extensions that keep first-, second- and third-year teachers on tenure track.
