Flossmoor’s pickup truck restrictions may be open to review

Going green has never been easier.

Recyclepalooza , on May 14, is a chance for Homewood-Flossmoor area residents to dispose of unwanted items in an ecologically sound manner.

From cell phones to ink jet cartridges to eye glasses and hotel shampoo, there is an extensive list of what will be collected. Recyclepalooza is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Parker Junior High School parking lot, 2810 School St. in Flossmoor.

Recyclepalooza is a first-time event, sponsored by the Village of Flossmoor Green Committee with the assistance of the School District 161 Green Teams, the H-F High School Green Team, South Star Services and Homewood Disposal.

“Our goal is to pull all of our ‘green’ organizations together to bring awareness to what and how to recycle common household goods,” said Green Committee Chair Maggie Bachus.

“Earth Day in April helps get the conversation started about how we can be better to the earth and change habits that increase pollution.  We hope that in the weeks prior to the event, community members identify items they would like to recycle and stop by on May 14.”

Bachus said the event is open to all H-F residents and the entire south suburban community.

Other items being collected at Recyclepalooza include bicycles, pop tabs, plastic bags, plastic wrap, magazines, clothes, medicines, American flags, reusable bags, sporting good and gently-used electronics such as computers, printers, tablets and iPods.

Persons wishing to dispose of televisions – which cannot be picked up with the trash – can do so for a $20 charge. All sizes and types of TVs will be collected.

All participants on May 14 are asked to enter Parker Junior High’s lot through the Flossmoor Road entrance and exit through School Street. Volunteers will be available to help remove items from participants’ cars.

Bachus said the Village of Flossmoor and Parker Junior High School deserve special thanks for supporting and providing the location for Recyclepalooza.

Persons wishing to volunteer at Recyclepalooza can contact Bachus at [email protected].
