Park district sets new rates for out-of-district participants

Members of Homewood and Flossmoor churches will be walking on April 24 in the annual CROP Hunger Walk to raise funds to feed the hungry.

The walk will begin at 2 p.m. at Salem Lutheran Church, 18324 Ashland Ave. in Homewood. Walkers will have four-mile and two-mile options. Volunteers have been raising funds through an annual walk for more than 30 years.

Participants are representing 30 churches throughout the South Suburbs, including St. Andrew United Methodist, Salem Lutheran and St. Paul Community Church of Homewood with Korean United Methodist Church, St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church and Flossmoor Community Church of Flossmoor. Students representing Homewood-Flossmoor High School’s Key Club will also participate.

Donations raised by walkers will benefit Church World Service, as well as Respond Now, Jones Community Center, Rich Township Food Pantry, South Suburban PADS, Hazel Crest Community Church Food Pantry and 1st Wesley Academy Church Hot Meals Program in Harvey.

According to organizer Lucy Kokal, the seven agencies provided food for an estimated 299,126 meals in 2014. To volunteer, contact Kokal at 708-799-7953. Donations can be made online at www.crophungerwalk.org/homewoodil
