Pitching ace John Ely serving as manager of Southland Vikings

U.S. Rep. Robin Kelly (D-Ill.) is traveling today, March 20, with President Obama as part of his historic trip to Cuba to further diplomatic and trade relations with the island nation.

The congresswoman is a member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs. Kelly, whose 2nd Congressional district includes the largest inland port in America, 1,800 farms and manufacturers like Ford, is the only Illinois representative on the trip.

“I’m excited to take part in this historic trip to Cuba with the President. This trip represents an important opportunity for American trade and diplomatic relations. Illinois in particular stands to gain a great deal from a normalizing of trade relations with Cuba that could be a real boon to our state’s manufacturing and agricultural sectors,” Kelly said. “I’m looking forward to exploring ways to expand opportunities in Cuba for Illinois businesses.”
