Homewood schools supporters knocking on doors this weekend sharing referendum message

Homewood schools supporter Patti Pohrte, center, and her son, John, share District 153 referendum information with JoAnn Duntz. Supporters were out over the weekend canvassing Homewood neighborhoods. Voters are being asked to approve a $9 million seven-year bond issue on March 15 that will help cover the district’s shortfall created by a loss of more than $2 million in state aid and a drop in property values.

  • Roots + Fire Water grand opening, 11 a.m. at 1941 Ridge Road in Homewood.

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
