Getting ready for the worst-case scenario is a job that never ends

Minor injuries were reported Thursday afternoon following a school bus accident at Birch Road and Center Avenue in Homewood. A bus carrying 35 Homewood-Flossmoor High School students was involved in the crash, said Jodi Bryant, the high school’s director of human resources and public relations.

Fire departments from Homewood, Flossmoor, Country Club Hills and Hazel Crest responded to the accident, which was reported to Homewood police at 3:26 p.m.

Bryant said four students reported some type of injury or pain as a result of the accident. Two of those students were taken by ambulance to South Suburban Hospital and the other two were picked up at the scene and released to their parents.

The injuries were considered minor, according to police.

The accident occurred as the bus was turning east onto Birch from southbound Center and made contact with a passenger vehicle that was stopped facing westbound on Birch.  The driver of the school bus was cited for improper lane usage, according to Homewood Assistant Police Chief Denise McGrath.
