Two persons were killed Sunday night following a violent two-car crash in Flossmoor.

At about 9:20 p.m., the two cars collided in the 19800 block of Crawford Avenue, according to a Flossmoor police report.

Both cars were southbound on Crawford, Deputy Chief Tod Kamleiter said. The accident occurred after the driver of a 2006 Infiniti attempted to pass a 2005 GMC, he said.

The driver of the Infiniti, a 24-year-old man from Country Club Hills, apparently lost control of his vehicle and drove into the driver’s side of the GMC, Kamleiter said. Both cars spun around and ended up on the east side of Crawford.

A northbound driver told police that he witnessed the crash in his rearview mirror. Police are also looking for another witness who told ABC-7 News that he saw the crash.

According to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office, the driver of the GMC — Robert Munse, 52, of Country Club Hills — was taken to St. James Hospital in Olympia Fields, where he was pronounced dead at 12:36 a.m. Monday.

A second man, one of two passengers in the Infiniti, was also pronounced dead at St. James. Pending notification of next of kin, he is identified only as a 22-year-old man from University Park.

The driver of the Infiniti and another passenger were taken to St. James for treatment.

Kamleiter said alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the accident. The accident is still under investigation by Flossmoor detectives and the Suburban Major Accident Reconstruction Team.

The driver of the Infiniti has not been charged with any traffic violations but that could change following the investigation into the crash, Kamleiter said.
