Walmart wins Class 8 tax break, gets tough questions from Homewood residents

The art of the spoken word will be on display Saturday from 4 to 9 p.m. at St. Paul Community Church on Dixie Highway in Homewood.Theatre Arts Leadership Kouncil (TALK) will host "Spoken Effect," a spoken word festival featuring poetry, short stories, dramatic readings, rap, and open mic offerings. There will be competitive and non-competitive aspects to the event, which is open to teens and adults."Like other events, teens are at the helm, with the assistance of an adult mentor, and so far we have over 20 applicants to read/perform their poetry or short . . .

Summer events

Monday, July 4

  • Homewood 4th of July parade. Starts at 10 a.m. from St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, then follows Ridge Road to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
  • Flossmoor 4th of July parade. Starts at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High and ends downtown, where there will be fun activities.
