Supporters are hoping the event, with tee-off time at 2 p.m. at Coyote Run, will become an annual event. All monies raised will be put into scholarships for H-F students who want to attend summer training camps. Selection will be based on academic record, athletic participation and financial need.

“We’ve never turned a student away because of financial need,” Dan Vosnos, H-F athletic director said, “but scholarships will allow us to reserve money that would have come out of athletic budgets,” so programs can be strengthened throughout the year.

Vosnos said H-F has 31 athletic programs.  Approximately 1,100 students participate in a sport.

Superintendent Von Mansfield approached Vosnos with the golf outing idea, and he worked with Ann Cherry, H-F’s alumni director, and a group of supportive alumni who “have taken the idea and run with it. It is something we hope to grow” into a major event each year.

Special guest for the event will be John Wrenn, former H-F football coach whose team won the state title in 1994. Wrenn coached for 10 years, compiling a record of 99-18 winning the state championship, nine conference championships, nine state playoff appearances, two state semi-finalists and two quarter-finalists. He was named Illinois Coach of the Year twice.

He also coached high school football in Arizona and won two state football championships as head coach at Hamilton High in Chandler, Ariz. In 2011, the football field was named in his honor. He went on to serve as assistant athletic director of football operations and high school relations at Arizona State University from 2006 until his retirement in 2014.

Red and White Golf Classic fees are $125 per person, which includes a buffet dinner.

A foursome is $500 and a young alum rate, for alumni from classes 2000-2011, is $99. Various sponsorship opportunities are available.
