The softball senior league championship victors will be decided on Tuesday when Homewood’s Aurelio’s Pizza Royal Pains plays Flossmoor’s Coleman Roofing Giants for the Viking Helmet Traveling Trophy, sponsored by Forever Yogurt.
The game will be played at 5:45 p.m. June 30 on the varsity softball field at Homewood-Flossmoor High School. This is the inaugural inter-league title game between the two neighborhood programs for 13- to 19-year-olds.
The Royal Pains were named Homewood Senior League Champions after defeating the Red Wolves 7-3 in a semi-final game, and earning a 10-7 victory over the White Sox for the title.

Royal Pains starting pitcher Jenna Bostick went the complete 7-inning distance in both playoff games. She enters Tuesday’s game with a season record of 8-2 with four saves. The team roster includes players Tyra Grady, Asia West and Kaylee Tarzon who played softball for H-F.
The Giants won the Flossmoor Senior League Championship title by defeating the Mariners 13-11 in extra innings. The team is led by power hitting shortstop/catcher Megan Dwyer. It was her two-run homer in the 8th inning of the game at Flossmoor Park that clinched the title for the Giants. Audrey Brown will start on the mound for the Giants in Tuesday’s game.
Homewood Senior League President Robert Maszak and Flossmoor Senior League President Jeff Kidd have worked together since last winter to bring both leagues together this season. Throughout the year, teams from both leagues have competed against each other at softball fields at Izaak Walton, Flossmoor Park, Highland Field and Apollo Park.
