Homewood trustees honored St. Joseph Catholic Church pastor the Rev. Richard Kozak at the village board meeting Tuesday.
“Thank you so much for this. When I came to St. Joseph in 1998 I had no idea I would be here for 17 years,” Kozak said. “I’ve enjoyed so much knowing you and working with you. You have been an inspiration to me.”
He said although he will move to Indiana after retiring, he plans to return to Homewood to visit.
“This is not farewell but just until we meet again,” he said.
A resolution approved by the board noted that in addition to his contributions to the parish, Kozak was an “active participant in community organizations, including serving as a member of the Homewood Ethics Commission since 2007. Kozak joined with other religious leaders in Homewood-Flossmoor community by participating in and hosting the annual Thanksgiving Ecumenical Service.
“On behalf of the citizens of Homewood and in recognition of his inspiring religious life, the president and board of trustees hereby extend to him congratulations upon his reitrement and also extend our thanks to him for his contributions to our great community.”
