The old saying, “April showers bring May flowers” has been half true this year. The showers have far outlasted April, but the flowers did arrive. It’s late June and a good time to take a look at the lush gardens recent rains have produced.

The Southland Community Garden Walk from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 28, will give those who appreciate floral scenes a chance to see some of the best in the area.

Eight gardens in Flossmoor, Homewood, Olympia Fields and Chicago Heights  will be on display. Master Gardeners will be on hand to discuss the features of each garden.

Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 day of and can be purchased at Art 4 Soul, 18135 Harwood, Homewood; Her Closet, 18334 Governors Highway, Homewood; and Sunnycrest Nursery, 19725 Governors Highway, Flossmoor.

Proceeds benefit Aunt Martha’s Youth Services and Respond Now.

Tickets can be picked up the day of the event at Goldberg Park, 3301 Flossmoor Road, Flossmoor.

The event is sponsored by the National Council of Jewish Women, South Cook Section and will go on rain or shine.
