Rainy weather this week didn’t stop crews from working on Flossmoor’s $7.8 million water main replacement project.

Following another June downpour on Wednesday, workers from Brandt Builders installed an eight-inch PVC pipe along Collett Lane. Village board members last month approved a $1.76 million contract with Brandt, of Morris, for this summer’s portion of the eight-year project.

Work started June 1. A new main has already been installed on Traverse Lane from Flossmoor Road to Evans Road and work is currently taking place on Collett, Hutchison Road and Gardner Road. Crews are also pressure testing and chlorinating the Traverse water main.

Other areas that will get new water mains this year are the Heather Hill North neighborhood and the block surrounded by Carroll Parkway, Evans Road, Travers Lane and Flossmoor Road.

In 2012, voters approved a referendum issue allowing the sale of general obligation bonds to finance the replacement of about six miles of water mains throughout Flossmoor. Village officials asked for the project, which they said was badly needed since the existing mains were in serious disrepair and losing a significant amount of water.

Persons with questions about this year’s water main program can call Flossmoor’s Public Works Department at 708-957-4100.
