The season’s first Starry Nights concert, presented by the Homewood-Flossmoor Park District, is the latest victim of June’s seemingly non-stop rains.
The park district announced Wednesday that Thursday’s free concert at the Irwin Center has been canceled due to the condition of the Irwin Center lawn. The show, featuring the classic rock band Voyage, has been re-scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 6.
“We apologize for the disappointment — we’re disappointed too! — but the rain has made the park a soggy, muddy mess,” said Darren Jasieniecki, the park district’s marketing and public relations manager.
The concert joins the list of youth baseball games and other events that have been canceled during an extremely rainy June. Today’s Bike Rodeo, slated for the H-F Sports Complex, also was canceled due to inclement weather.
