Homewood police will be out of their squad cars and into the restaurant business for the ButterBurgers & Badges fundraiser for Special Olympics Illinois.
As part of the Change for Champions program, police will be at the Culver’s Restaurant, 850 W. 183rd St. in Homewood, serving customers in the restaurant and in the drive-thru between 5 and 9 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30.
Officers will collect tips for their service. In addition, Culver’s will donate $1 for every purchase of any size Concrete Mixer frozen custard. The money will be added to donations dropped into the “Change for Champions” canisters posted in the restaurant this month.
The ButterBurgers & Badges event on June 30 will be the culmination of a month-long effort to raise funds for Special Olympics, said Todd Bromley, general manager of the Homewood Culver’s. The funds will help Special Olympics Illinois continue its year-round sports training and competition programs for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
The Special Olympics Summer Games in Illinois were held June 12 through 14.
Competitors were selected to represent Illinois at the World Games being held in Los Angeles in July.
