Kid heaven: A chance to operate big machines at Homewood Public Works open house

The Memorial Day parade in Homewood Monday was a damp one, accompanied by rain showers, but soon after it arrived at the Veterans Memorial on Harwood Avenue, the clouds began to break up and the sun came through. Wally Burns VFW Post 8077 Commander John Beele served as master of ceremonies. The program included remarks and prayers from local clergymen; music from piper Tom Houst, the James Hart orchestra, the Homewood-Flossmoor marching band, and H-F Viking Choir; a memorial wreath-laying ceremony; and a rifle salute by the South Suburban Chiefs of Police Association.
