Old cell phone donations can help someone in need

Thieves stole items this week from cars parked in a Flossmoor neighborhood, and a car was stolen, police said.

In an email alert to residents, Flossmoor police reported May 19 that property was stolen from vehicles parked on the village’s northeast side. The thefts were discovered early on Tuesday. Police said there was no sign of forced entry into the vehicles and it appears they may have been left unlocked.

On the same night, a vehicle was stolen from a driveway in the 900 block of Gardner Lane. No evidence of forced entry, such as broken glass, was observed at the scene.

From previous investigations, Flossmoor police have learned that such thieves will park in a remote area then travel on foot, going from vehicle to vehicle looking for unlocked doors.

Residents are reminded to take precautionary measures to remain safe and alert to potential opportunities for crime to occur. Some reminders include:

  • Do not leave windows open.
  • Do not leave doors unlocked.
  • Do not leave keys in the vehicle.
  • Do not leave the garage door opener in plain view.
  • Do not leave out items that give personal information.

Anyone with information is asked to call asked to call the Flossmoor Police Department at 708-957-4500. Residents should call 911 immediately to report suspicious activity or individuals.
