Flossmoor Baseball and Softball teams enjoy perfect weather for opening day parade

Flossmoor School District 161 reorganized its Board of Education leadership Monday, adding two new members as two other members left the board.

Stephen Paredes was chosen as board president. A high school teacher and reading specialist, Paredes was first elected to the school board in 2013.

Timijanel Boyd Odom was elected board vice president. She is an attorney who was first elected to the school board in 2009, and was re-elected in 2013.

Lisa Harrell was chosen as board secretary. Harrell, first elected to the board in 2013, is president of AMD Business Solutions, a Homewood-based human capital consulting company.

Two new board members, both elected for the first time last month, were sworn in Monday. They are Michelle Hoereth, the top vote-getter in the school board election, and Merle Huckabee. Hoereth is an urban planner with the Illinois Facilities Fund. Huckabee is an executive administrative specialist at the University of Chicago.

John Simmons, who was elected to a third term last month, was also sworn in Monday. He is a financial analyst.

Two members from the previous school board are not returning. Leah Bailey Langston did not run for another term. Gregg Lunceford, the previous board president, was defeated in the April election.

District 161 has five schools for students from kindergarten through eighth grade and serves Flossmoor and sections of Homewood, Olympia Fields, Chicago Heights and Hazel Crest. School board meetings are scheduled the second Monday of each month at the district administration center, 41 E. Elmwood Drive, Chicago Heights.
