Volunteers enjoy sunshine as they spruce up H-F parks

A 10-year-old Flossmoor boy, on his way to the baseball field near the village’s downtown area, was injured Monday evening after he turned his bicycle into the path of a car, according to a police report.

The boy was transported by ambulance to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Deputy Police Tod Kamleiter said, adding that it did not appear that his injuries were serious. No traffic citations were issued following the accident, which took place at 6:31 p.m.

Kamleiter said the youth was eastbound on Flossmoor Road, and riding on the sidewalk. The driver of the car was also eastbound on the same street. At Brassie Avenue, just east of the Metra viaduct, the boy made an abrupt left turn to cross Flossmoor Road and enter the park. He turned in front of the car and was struck by the vehicle. Kamleiter said the car was traveling at a low rate of speed.

The accident was witnessed by an off-duty Cook County Sheriff’s Department officer, Kamleiter said. Emergency personnel were on the scene a couple of minutes later, he said, and the boy was getting medical attention shortly after being struck by the car.
