Homewood-Flossmoor High School will host its National Honor Society (NHS) induction ceremony for 111 juniors and sophomores today, May 5, at the high school.
Guest speaker at the event will be 1968 H-F alumnus and fellow NHS member Edward Monser, president of the Fortune 500 company Emerson (formerly Emerson Electric). He will share the story of his business career, his educational path that led to a job in teaching and then a return to college for an engineering degree, and his many volunteer efforts and community service.
Monser will be joined on stage by current NHS officers Mia Guzynski and Branden Levine, co-presidents; Gabriella Cooke, treasurer; Kennedy Davis, secretary; and NHS sponsor Dave Kush, H-F’s director of assessment.
NHS, founded in 1921, recognizes outstanding students who excel in scholarship, leadership, service and character. These students have at least a 3.6 grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale. They are the top 20 percent of their class. The members will be expected to complete a mandatory 25 hours of service for H-F.
