The project is the first phase of an effort to upgrade Martin Avenue from Village Hall to Kroner Avenue. The goal of the TIF-funded project is to increase the appeal of downtown Homewood and improve the setting for community events.
The majority of construction is expected to be completed by July 4, according to village officials.
During the second phase of the project Martin Avenue from Ridge Road south to Hickory Road will be partially closed only as needed for construction, according to information on the village website.
Sections of parking on Martin Avenue will be unavailable at times. Disruption of vehicle traffic and parking will be minimized as much as possible.
Ridge Road will not be closed during construction.
Access to businesses will remain open where the brick pavers or sidewalks are being replaced. Temporary materials will be used to allow access over the exposed sidewalk.
Improvements include:
- Closing Martin Avenue from Ridge Road north to the La Banque Hotel driveway, replacing the sidewalks and street in this section with brick pavers and installing Tivoli lights, seating, new trees and flower beds in this area.
- Two-way traffic from Chestnut Road south to the La Banque Hotel driveway with a roundabout turn around.
- Replacing the concrete sidewalk with brick pavers on the west side of Martin Avenue from the La Banque Hotel north to Chestnut Road.
- Replacing existing brick pavers at all four corners at Martin Avenue and Ridge Road and installing monument piers at all four corners.
- Installing new trees on the east side of Martin from Ridge Road south to the parking lot apron and replacing the existing concrete sidewalk with new concrete.
- Installing a fire pit and seat walls at the northeast corner of the Homewood Florist building.
- Installing new landscaping in front of the mural on the north wall of the Homewood Florist building.
- Installing Tivoli light poles on both sides of Martin Avenue from Ridge Road south to Hickory Road.
- Replanting and repairing existing flower beds.
