The Homewood District 153 School Board held a moment of reflection upon the announcement that its former superintendent, Jim Mahan, had died Monday, March 16. He was a Flossmoor resident.
Mahan served as superintendent from 1984 to 1999. It was a time of major growth in the district, said Board President Shelly Marks. Mahan doubled the staff to better served the students.
It was Mahan who gave District 153 its mission statement: All children will learn, all children will be served.
Marks said Mahan “really changed this district and set it on a course that we follow today.”
