The Homewood-Flossmoor High School Varsity Scholastic Bowl team walked away the winners in an Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Sectionals competition Saturday and will now advance to state competition beginning Friday, March 20, in Peoria.
H-F will be competing in Class AA against teams from Hinsdale High School, the Illinois Math and Science Academy and Bloomington High School in the state tournament.
The team of Michael Gislason, Lily Hamer, Jacob Fontana, Ethan Bosch, Peter Cipriano, Caleb D’Amico, Lauren Torian, Caitlin Lamb, Malina Worldlaw, Michael Bonthron and Nathaniel Bouchie is coached by teacher Michael Sacks.
The H-F team won Saturday, March 14, in the Sectionals challenge, defeating teams from Marist High School in Chicago, Sandburg High School in Orland Park and Providence High School in New Lenox.
H-F had earlier won the Illinois High School Association’s Regionals meet, defeating Thornton, Rich Central and Reavis High Schools.
H-F also completed the first undefeated season in Southwest Suburban Conference history, sweeping every team in the regular season going 15-0, and winning all four matches at the conference championship to win the tournament.
