The Homewood-Flossmoor Viking Orchestra invites all community residents to its free Spring Concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 22, in the HF Mall Auditorium at 999 Kedzie Ave., Flossmoor.
The concert will feature music the group will perform on its tour to Spain.
The orchestra hopes to bring an American flair to Spain by performing a program that consists mostly of American composers including Geoffry Wharton, Eric Whitacre and Eric Ewazen, according to Director B.J. Engrav.
“Our music selections reflect the power that music has to unite different cultures and different worlds,” Engrav said.
The music students want to dedicate their Spring Concert performance to the greater Homewood-Flossmoor community in appreciation for its support of the group’s fundraising efforts to defray the costs of the trip, Engrav said.
“The kids understand how lucky they are to have this opportunity and to have the backing of their families, friends and neighbors. We can think of no better way to thank the community than with the gift of our music,” Engrav said.
The group departs for its tour to Barcelona, Zaragoza and Madrid on March 26.
The international music tour is sponsored every year by the Homewood-Flossmoor Fine and Performing Arts Council (FPAC), a private, not-for-profit organization that promotes the fine and performing arts at H-F High School and throughout the greater H-F community.
