Potbelly Sandwich Shop will officially open its doors at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 17, but the new Homewood location will have a “soft” opening Monday that will benefit Homewood-Flossmoor High School.

The Potbelly “Oven Warming Party” will have two sessions, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

For a $5 cash donation, patrons will receive a sandwich, chips and drink, according to Antonio Altamirano, a member of the restaurant’s management team. All proceeds will go to H-F High School.
Patrons should bring an invitation.

Starting Tuesday, the restaurant will be open Sundays through Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

A grand opening is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, with Homewood Mayor Rich Hofeld expected to preside over the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The restaurant’s general manager will be Amanda Gonzalez. She posted a greeting to Homewood area patrons on the restaurant’s website: “I’m really excited to open up a shop in Homewood and bring the Potbelly Brand into the area.”

In a news release, company officials note that Potbelly Sandwich Shops are often recognized for live entertainment by local performers.

“Music has been a part of the Potbelly experience since the first shop opened in 1977,” officials said. “Neighborhood musicians put a little rhythm into lunch.”

Potbelly’s other signature feature is its decor.

“Potbelly’s searches high and low for antiques that give the shops their distinctive, local quirks. No two Potbelly shops are alike, always incorporating little touches and artifacts that reflect each neighborhood it resides in,” company officials said.
