Millennium School’s Flower Power helps cancer patients

"Music from the Backyard & Front Porch," a show featuring American songs performed by Lauren Pelon using a wide array of instruments, will be presented at 6 p.m. March 24 at the Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway. 

Pelon, an acclaimed singer-songwriter, will be singing pieces of indigenous peoples and American immigrants, and will accompany herself on nearly two dozen ancient and modern wind, string and free-reed instruments.

Summer events

Monday, July 4

  • Homewood 4th of July parade. Starts at 10 a.m. from St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, then follows Ridge Road to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
  • Flossmoor 4th of July parade. Starts at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High and ends downtown, where there will be fun activities.
