“Music from the Backyard & Front Porch,” a show featuring American songs performed by Lauren Pelon using a wide array of instruments, will be presented at 6 p.m. March 24 at the Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway.
Pelon, an acclaimed singer-songwriter, will be singing pieces of indigenous peoples and American immigrants, and will accompany herself on nearly two dozen ancient and modern wind, string and free-reed instruments.
“I believe in the importance of local music and local stories,” Pelon said, “and I like to celebrate its great variety and range. This program gives me a chance to do that.”
Pelon is bringing an array of instruments for the March 24 program, including a Native American flute, concertina, pennywhistle, ocarina, eagle bone flute, guitar, recorder and psalmodikon, all prominent in American history.
To tell a story or illustrate an idea, Pelon will also be using the guitar-lute, archlute, bowed psaltery, lyre, hurdy-gurdy, gemshorns, cornamuse, krummhorn, schreierpfeife, shawm, electric wind instrument and pedalboard.
Pelon has performed throughout the U.S. and in China, Canada, England, Ireland, Scotland, Russia, Kazakhstan, Australia and New Zealand.
