The idea is to relax and create.
Paintertaining, a paint party company, is setting up a place to do both at 2049 Ridge Road in Homewood.
The business has an opening party planned for 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, March 14. Light refreshments will be served as owners Iesha Bass-Simmons and Terrence Simmons introduce the business to the community.
The company will offer adult paint nights, private parties, family days and open painting sessions. A professional artist will be on hand during parties to help participants create their works of art, according to Bass-Simmons.
The couple plan to seek a “bring your own bottle” liquor license, so party participants can sip a little wine while they paint.
Bass-Simmons characterized the event Saturday as a “soft opening,” with a grand opening to follow later. Some work is still being done to the building, which has been unoccupied for nearly two years, according to village officials.
Village trustees approved $6,000 in property improvement incentives for the business at their Feb. 24 meeting. The Simmonses received a bid of $12,000 for installing a code-compliant restroom. The Downtown Homewood Business Incentive Program (BIP) incentives will cover 50 percent of the restroom costs.
The downtown BIP replaces the downtown tax increment financing (TIF) district that expired at the end of 2013. The programs and criteria for participation are the same as the TIF district, but funding is provided from the village general fund rather than the TIF fund.
