The skilled nursing facility at Advocate South Suburban Hospital in Hazel Crest has been rated among the best nursing homes in the country by U.S. News & World Report. The hospital’s skilled nursing unit was awarded an overall Five Star Quality Rating on the organization’s Best Nursing Homes 2015 list, according to a news release from the hospital.

Advocate South Suburban Hospital’s SNF is the only one of 176 participating nursing homes in a 25-miles radius to earn a U.S. News & World Report’s Five Star Rating in all categories. In the ratings, each nursing home is graded on its performance in important clinical categories, how much time nursing staff spends with resident, and health and fire safety violations.

“This Five-Star rating confirms that we are living our mission to provide outstanding, compassionate care and service to our SNF patients,” said Richard Multack, vice president of Medical Management at Advocate South Suburban Hospital. “It is deeply gratifying to be recognized for our dedication to providing focused medical care with personalized support services that allow our patients to reach their highest possible levels of health and independence.”

The 41-bed SNF at Advocate provides rehabilitative and skilled nursing care for patients who, following a hospital stay due to an illness or injury, are not physically ready to return home or to a long-term care facility.

In its seventh year, the Best Nursing Homes rankings provide information on care, safety, health inspections, staffing and other data for nearly 16,000 nursing homes across the country. Only facilities that received a five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS), the federal agency that sets and enforces standards for nursing homes, were considered for the award.

To create Best Nursing Homes 2015, U.S. News drew on data from Nursing Home Compare, a program run by CMS. U.S. News awarded a “Best Nursing Homes” designation to facilities that earned the agency’s highest overall rating of five stars.
