Flossmoor receives award for excellence in financial practices

Two men face a number of criminal charges after allegedly attempting to outrun Homewood police on Interstate 80 early Friday, Feb. 27.

The driver, Willie Banks, 38, of the 13600 block of Eggleston in Riverdale, was charged with aggravated fleeing, driving with a revoked license, reckless conduct, operating an uninsured vehicle and use of an unsafe tire, according to a police report.

A passenger in the vehicle, George Rawls, 38, of the 300 block of Yates in Calumet City, was charged with resisting a police officer.

The incident began near Ridge Road and Halsted Street shortly after 12:30 a.m. when a Homewood police officer observed the vehicle had a very underinflated tire. When the officer attempted to stop the vehicle near 175th Street, Banks instead merged onto eastbound Interstate 80 and increased speed, according to police.

Banks’ vehicle at one point exceeded 100 mph, police said. The chase ended when the underinflated tire disintegrated and Banks lost control of the vehicle, police said.

Additional information about the incident was not immediately available.
