A blizzard of stories in the forecast for Tuesday in Homewood

South Suburban Family Shelter will be celebrating its 35th anniversary of providing services to victims of domestic violence and their families at a gala event May 2 at Idlewild Country Club in Flossmoor.

Sponsorship opportunities are available in different giving levels. SSFS is also seeking donations for the silent auction which will be one element of the event.

Volunteers are needed at SSFS’s resale shop located in Park Forest, One More Thing. The store is almost entirely run by volunteers, who perform a number of various jobs in the store. Donations of household items and furniture are also being accepted at this time. Information about One More Thing is available by calling 708-228-5077.

South Suburban Family Shelter is one of 10 Chicago-area domestic violence programs in a partnership as an approved charity for the Chicago Marathon.

Team “Run Domestic Violence Out of Town” is seeking team members. Another team has been formed for the half marathon as well, and this will also benefit the “Run DV Out of Town” team. Runners who wish to “run for a cause” to support domestic violence programs throughout the Chicago area are asked to email to [email protected].

South Suburban Family Shelter maintains a food and supply pantry for clients. Items needed now include non-perishable food items such as canned soups and vegetables, rice and beans, other healthy non-perishable options (current freshness date please) and also personal hygiene products such as shampoo, lotion, soap, etc.
