A blizzard warning is in effect for the area, including Homewood and Flossmoor, from 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 1, to midnight, according to the National Weather Service in Chicago.
A winter storm moved into the area Saturday night, with moderate wet snow, but the storm is expected to intensify during the day Sunday, with heavy snow at times and winds gusting to 40 mph by mid-afternoon.
The H-F area could see 10 to 15 or more inches of snow from this storm.
Whiteout conditions are possible late Sunday afternoon and evening, making travel extremely dangerous, according to the NWS alert. NWS officials suggest area residents travel only in emergencies.
