Homewood Farmers Market returns to the stage Saturday

The contract with Global Studios to complete a concept plan for the development of a community science center was deferred, but the Homewood board of trustees meeting Tuesday, Jan. 27, was filled with business development matters, including news of two new restaurants planning to open this year.Village President Richard Hofeld announced that a Portillo's will be built at the intersection of 175th and Halsted streets.  He said the company plans to break ground in March."They would like to be open early in September," Hofeld said. "We will work diligently with them to meet their schedule . . .

  • Roots + Fire Water grand opening, 11 a.m. at 1941 Ridge Road in Homewood.

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
