If you think the first week of the year was cold, the January Homewood-Flossmoor Science Pub presentation might add a bit of welcome perspective.
Max Berkelhammer of the University of Illinois at Chicago will present “Where air and ice meet; Greenland ice sheet surface processes” at 8 pm. Tuesday, Jan. 27, at Ravisloe Country Club, 18231 S. Park Ave. in Homewood.
Berkelhammer’s research and teaching “focus on studying the interactions between the land surface and atmosphere with an emphasis on the global carbon and water cycles.”
“My research aims to shed light on the natural and anthropogenic processes that influence the atmospheric branch of the water cycle,” he says on his university webpage. “The motivation for this line of inquiry is to provide better constraints on how ecological systems respond to changes in water availability. The work involves reconstructions of past hydrological regimes using paleoclimate proxies to study how the climate system behaved prior to strong anthropogenic influences.”
Homewood-Flossmoor Science Pub meets the last Tuesday of the month at either Ravisloe Country Club or Grady’s Grille in Homewood to hear presentations by area scientists.
